*The February AFDSNY Coffee With Commissioners will be this Saturday
morning 2/24/24 at 9:00am. This month we will be discussing two major
changes that could affect the fire service, your district, and your
departments. OSHA has proposed a new 1910.156 fire brigade that will
introduce sweeping changes in how we do business. OSHA has released a
608-page document that lays out the new requirements. The standard is
currently in the 90 day public comment period and could go into effect
shortly thereafter. The new standard would now requires us to follow
several NFPA standards and includes a lot of administrative requirements.
We will break down some of these changes and outline the process if you
would like to comment either for or against the proposed document.*

*We will inform you of some changes in the Training Authorization process
and MOU for sending firefighters to NYOFPC trainings. We have received
several phone calls on both of these changes and will try to point you in
the right direction to become better educated on what these are, and might
mean, for your organization. We will also share details on the NYS Lobby
Day event we are participating in on February 27 with the other NYS Fire
Service organizations.*
